"MONUMENTI APERTI"

"Monumenti Aperti" e' una bellissima iniziativa che permette di visitare gratuitamente i monumenti delle citta'della Sardegna. Il 9 e 10 ottobre e'stato il turno di Alghero, e cosi' ne abbiamo approfittato per ammirare la nostra città con gli occhi del turista. Le guide dell'evento sono stati i ragazzi delle scuole della città, dalle scuole elementari alle superiori, che con le loro magliette distintive accoglievano i visitatori all'ingresso dei monumenti e davano del loro meglio per spiegare la storia e le caratteristiche di questo o quel monumento. Un ottimo modo per coinvolgere i ragazzi nella promozione della loro realtà locale e per abituarli a sviluppare il senso dell'ospitalità e a rapportarsi con il pubblico dei vacanzieri! Magari ci fossero state delle simili iniziative quando ero io a scuola!

"Monumenti Aperti" is the name of a praiseworthy venture which took place in Alghero on the week end of the 9th and 10th October 2010 and allows residents and tourists to visit the city monuments for free. We took advantage of the initiative ourselves as well, and visited the old town monuments through the unusual (for us) perspective of a tourist. The guides were the local schoolboys and girls, from primary to high school, all clad with the distinctive t-shirt, who met the visitors at each monument's entrance and did their best to explain the history and peculiarity of the landmark they were assigned to. This was for sure a wonderful opportunity for them to be involved with the promotion of the territory and to learn how to deal with the growing numbers of holidaymakers. I wish there were such initiatives when I was at school!!!

Cominciamo la visita sul "Lungomare Barcellona", che si trova lungo il porto turistico.

We start our visit walking along the seafront "Lungomare Barcellona", next to the marina.

Ci avviciniamo alla città fortificata, e al porto commerciale, da dove partono le escursioni in battello. Si può vedere anche il capolinea del "Trenino catalano"

We then get closer to the walled town and the harbour, which is the point of departure for several daytrips along the coast. This is also the last stop of the "Trenino catalano".

Un modo invece per esplorare i dintorni e la costa, è "Trottolo", l'autobus turistico che segue il modello di quelli in uso nelle grandi città europee.

Another way to explore the city, its outskirts and the coast is "Trottolo", the double decker bus like the ones in use in other European cities.

Questa è la porta che collega la città vecchia al porto.

This is the door which links the old city to the main harbour.

Salite le scale, ci si trova sui bastioni che sovrastano il porto. Da qui comincia la passeggiata per la città vecchia.

After climbing the stairs, we are on the walls overlooking the harbour. It's here that our journey through the old city starts.

Capo Caccia. E' un punto di riferimento paesaggistico visibile da diversi punti della città, e da diverse angolazioni.

Capo Caccia is a landmark visible from several spots within the town, and through several different perspectives.

Questi ombrelli sono fatti con le gonne portare dalle donne sarde anziane, che continuavano a indossarle anche quando dall'entroterra venivano ad Alghero, perché per loro era un modo per portarsi dietro parte della loro tradizione.

These umbrellas are made of the long skirts worn by ageing Sardinian women. They used to insist to wear them even in Alghero, because to them it was a way to keep the traditions of the hinterland.
